Heated press parts are a bespoke acoustic insulation and heat shield product available here at Acoustafoam.

Heated press parts are available in a variety of material including melamine foam and phenolic fibre. Both materials can be faced with a fire retardant fibre or a high-temperature aluminium. Each facing is acoustically transparent allowing the heat and sound to be absorbed making them perfect for engine bays of construction vehicle, cars, generator canopies and internal structure insulation.

The thermoforming characteristics of heated press materials allow both insulation and heat shield products to be perfectly designed to there environments.

Since 1979, Acoustafoam Ltd has been supplying quality Anti-vibration, Acoustic and Thermal insulations products into a broad range of sectors. From humble roots in the Midlands, Acoustafoam started with Mick Tranter travelling around the UK installing acoustic cab insulation into tractors and off-road vehicles. Acoustafoam Ltd has transformed into one of the UK’s leading Antivibration, Acoustic and Thermal insulation specialists. We are supporting a vast range of Industries including, Off-road Vehicles, Power Generation, Marine, Military, Automotive and Agricultural.

Now in the hands of Mike’s son, Carl Tranter Acoustafoam is as ambitious as ever. With a wealth of knowledge at the shop floor level as well as all management levels. We are very proud of the fact that 50%of the workforce has a minimum of 15-20 years service.

Mezzanine Floor Development

We are pleased to announce new plans have been approved for extending the mezzanine floor.

The new plans increase the production footprint by 230 square meters. The additional space will allow increasing the Sewing and Polyurethane foam moulding sections in the factory.

The work will be taking place over the summer shut down.

Best Practice event review: Acoustafoam

Telford-based manufacturer, and Made in the Midlands member, Acoustafoam held the penultimate Best Practice networking event of the year today, welcoming both existing, and new members to both their factory and Shifnal Town F.C Social Club.

Acoustafoam specialises in the manufacturing of foam, rubber and plastic components for a wide variety of sectors including the automotive, construction, marine – including boards, military, machinery enclosures, and both public – including rail – transport.

This best practice event provided members of Made in the Midlands with an insight into Acoustafoam’s manufacturing of foam, rubber and plastic components.

Starting at 9 am, the event began at Shifnal Town F.C Social Club, where Acoustafoam are sponsors. During the breakfast period, where tea, coffee, and hot breakfast was served, over 30 members, including several recent new joiners – who marked this as their first Best Practice event – networked.

After the traditional 60-second pitch, where all the members introduced themselves, there was a short presentation where Acoustafoam talked about some of their best practice methods.

During the presentation, it was stated that the first reason for their longevity, of 40 years, and one of their key Best Practices was being family-run and undertaking a family mentality. It was stated that this is a Best Practice because it ensures you keep people employed in your company for years, citing the between 20 and 40 years of employment of senior management. At the same time, it was also explained that this family mentality allows you to not only ask the important questions but also the daft ones as well.

A second-best practice method employed by the company was communication. Presented with a company structure, from top to bottom, it was stated that, “The key with communication is that with our company, it’s not downwards but instead comes across from the shop floor to the office and top management.”

Regarding communication, the ambition of the company and a Best Practice method for selling was not selling a product, but selling a solution brought to them by customers.

“In a company, we work with both the engineers and the buying department. Engineers love to over-engineer something, usually costing a lot of money, whilst the buying team doesn’t want to pay for it. At Acoustafoam we sit ourselves in that communication.”

After the presentation, members were then shuttled to their factory, located approximately 3 miles from the social club, for a tour of the Acoustafoam factory.

Throughout the tour, members were taken on a tour of their facilities seeing the live process including how the components are processed from blocks, sheet and rolls of materials using a broad range of machinery including band saws, CNC machines, and water jets to achieve their customer’s specification.

In the case of the tour that our members were taken on, they saw the original material foam – as it is when it arrives at the factory – to the cutting process, and even the final product, which in one example they saw was the headrests used within minibuses. However, this also includes floor mats, armrests, seating, trim and headliners.

As part of its Brexit planning and ongoing quality improvement programme Acoustafoam Ltd has been awarded Caterpillar Supplier Quality Excellence certification. With sales revenues of $54.7 billion, Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment supplying every continent in the world.

Acoustafoam provides bespoken Acoustic Insulations, exhaust jackets and Polyurethane moulded floor mats across multiple vehicle platforms.

Caterpillar created the Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP) to recognise those suppliers that demonstrate their commitment to excellence and drive a “zero defects” culture within their organizations. Certification levels include Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, reflected in order of increasing difficulty. Suppliers are certified through SQEP by meeting or exceeding stringent supplier performance standards, such as product quality and shipping performance.

We are very honoured to have received the Caterpillar Bronze Level Supplier Quality Excellence Process Award today.

Caterpillar created the Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP) to recognise those suppliers that demonstrate their commitment to excellence and drive a "zero defects" culture within their organisations. Certification levels include Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, reflected in the order of increasing difficulty. Suppliers are certified through SQEP by meeting or exceeding stringent suppliers performance standards, such as product quality and shipping performance, which are measured over the course of a calendar year.

The recognition plaque was presented to Mike Tranter CEO of Acoustafoam, Carl Tranter Managing Director of Acoustafoam, Mark Mckeown Acoustafoams Quality and Technical Director and Paul Blakeley Acoustafoams Sales Directors.

Acoustafoam hold MIM Virtual Breakfast Morning

This week, the Made in Group saw long-standing member Acoustafoam host a Made in the Midlands Virtual Breakfast Morning. Over 40 members of the group joined the event on Thursday 4th February to learn more about Acoustafoam and network with fellow members. The company’s presentation proved a hit as Zach Baker, Sales and Marketing Manager, gave a concise overview of their values, their ambitions and current ongoing developments within the business.

Members of Made in the Midlands were in for a treat this morning, not just talking about the breakfast hamper full of goodies that are delivered to members before the event.

The event began with a short introduction from Jason Pitt, CEO of the Made in Group, who welcomed members and thanked Acoustafoam’s Zach for hosting the event. This was followed by short introductions from all of the members including new members who have recently joined the group and had not yet attended a Virtual Breakfast Morning.

Established in 1979 by founder Mike Tranter, Acoustafoam was originally created to provide acoustic trim for tractors and off-road vehicles. However over the last 40 years, through investment in developing management systems, material, staff and equipment the company delivers one of the most comprehensive range of products in the industry. Zach said:

“We are a modern company employing what are often called old fashion business values, built on customer service, honesty, trust and professional curiosity. We are always looking to improve what we do, even when it is exhausting!”

Acoustafoam’s ambition has always been to constantly grow and develop by becoming a ‘critical friend’ to their customers and partners. They do this by sharing their passion and knowledge, offering engineering and development support, enhancing value for money and investing time to understand what their customers value. Zach continued:

“In terms of sectors it is very varied, we supply to the military, minibus and coach, power generation sector, compressors, heavy goods vehicles, construction… the list goes on. If it makes a noise, that's our core business, we will make it quieter!”

Supplying to major brands such as Caterpillar, JCB and Bentley, Acoustafoam’s products are all bespoke for their customers. The team often manufactures custom filters, seals and gaskets on top of having a large polyurethane foam moulding section.

After the presentation, members were able to network in smaller groups to build all-important industry relationships amongst members via zoom breakout rooms.
